Life Studies: revisiting the aftermath of Magdalene-Laundry-trauma, as read in the body vocabulary. Rachael Romero, 2011-2012
Travelling exhibit ENSLAVED in a Magdalene Laundry, Adelaide, South Australia, is informed by her experience in the late1960's
Sept 3 - Oct 3, 2014. Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, Hawke Centre, South Australia University
My impulse in making the Life Studies (aftermath drawings) is to depathologize the negative affects of trauma so that they can be 'seen.'
By integrating the drawings into a more complex online ‘moving picture” this ‘seeing’ might NOT be a witness of “sorrow of the singular other,”
but instead its antithesis—a catalyst to for community formation--feeling rather than numbness, resulting in a felt re-solution leading to effective protection and prevention of present-future abuse and exploitation.
We are broken when we are whole/And we are whole when we are broken. -Bjork. Quicksand album
